Description

With each book, Spencer-Fleming just keeps getting better. This one may be her masterpiece, and it will leave the reader wanting more. Richmond Times-Dispatch

A 2008 Agatha Award for Best Novel

In the searing conclusion to All Mortal Flesh, Russ's balance between duty and desire was broken by his wife's tragic death. Now, Russ and Episcopal priest Clare Fergusson are separated by a wall of guilt and grief. When a Mexican farmhand stumbles over a Latino man killed with a single shot to the back of his head, Clare is drawn into the investigation. The discovery of two more bodies ignites fears that a serial killer is loose in the rural town while Russ is plagued by the media hysteria, conflict within the police department, and a series of baffling assaults. Throughout the escalating tensions, he and Clare find themselves seeking each other out even as they intend to keep distant.

Praise

“Suzanne Toren uses her beautiful voice to build suspense, drama, and romanc…Her Spanish accents work well, and her characterizations are always honest. I Shall Not Want offers romance and murder tied up in a neat, well-written package delivered by a masterful narrator.” AudioFile

“Action rachets up in a deadly shoot-out with drug-dealing Latino gangbangers, and just when resolution seems within reach, there’s a final twist. Keenly moving and occasionally laugh-out-loud funny, this is a tour de force in a series that seems to have jumped several levels in quality.” Booklist (starred review)
